- Devin spoke up to the NFPA after he was fired in June about possible non-compliance (hi, Joe)

- Devin sent angry messages to his former boss about the conditions, or that he was sure whether or not the site was in compliance with what he built (he is autistic so he follows things to the letter like he was taught in elementary school)
- Devin writes a post published in May after he got fired to his personal site devinfriske.com, during a time where he was very angry because there were things that he felt that were done that were wrong and he wasn’t there to fix them and he wanted to make sure they got done
- Devin is served a letter from Delk-McNally (legal counsel for Vertellus) for messaging Doug with angry messages [Devin also sent the link to his blog to many other people in his life who needed to know what he was going through and why there was turmoil in his brain… to which writing and expressing himself raw and real in deep metaphor to couch any direct accusations behind a wall of plausible deniability
- Those metaphors get interpreted as threats because it includes some imagery that is violent and has firearms and weapons in it
- Devin hires a lawyer for $4000 that he doesn’t have that he still owes his dad
- Devin loses that case and they instead insist on a prophylactic measure of a protective order against Devin that lasts three years starting from [insert date here]
- Devin goes busking in 2025 in Indianapolis and decides to drive by the plant
- Much to his surprise, things are shut down… it’s a great, human feeling he feels because he knew the siting was always wrong at least since for awhile and now that neighborhood in close proximity to downtown is going to be so much happier if that site doesn’t actively operate as it has a gassy tank farm like a herd of cattle and those gases aren’t as easy to breathe as cow farts
- That is a direct violation of the protective order
- A judge will decide what happens based on these facts in about a month and Devin is scared as fuck because he doesn’t wanna go back to prison
Devin wanted to appeal the initial protective order ruling but he didn’t have a lawyer that he could afford because it would’ve costed another $2000 or $4000 and that wasn’t “affordable “ as far as representation
Devin also did not know how to go through the appeal process and missed the deadline and was depressed and gave up, not being able to go back to see his friends in Indianapolis would suck, but that’s a small price to pay
Doug was still able to receive text messages from Devin, because Doug did not block Devin’s cell phone number on his phone (Doug was able to figure out how to block Devin on LinkedIN and blocked him in June of after the May Devin posted the blog post on his website. Doug is a master strategist, after all. He owns over 1000 board games, legend has it. But for some reason Doug can’t figure out how to block Devin’s text messages?Because Doug wants retaliation. Doug wants to settle a score, so Doug lets Devin digging his own problems for himself… his own grave.. Nice move, Doug! Very intelligent! Very cool! Definitely not psychopathic and totally reasonable and normal human thing to do.
Devin first started protesting when he was young –
His first protest in 2010 or 2011, when McHenry District 156 had a referendum on the local tax levied on the local schools… he was banned by school officials from commenting on the D156 Facebook page. They weren’t able to handle the truth.
He protested with Black Lives Matter in Indianapolis in 2018, and his sister had done similar in Indianapolis in the preceding years (she set a good example)
Sometimes Devin protests alone but when he believes in the cause it doesn’t matter to him what the consequences are, when something is right it is still a good thing to cross boundaries put in by the legal system to protect adults from killing each other over nothing.. protective orders are a good thing, but only when violence is anticipated and Devin, while angry, swears he never felt violence in his heart that would lead him to purchase the means to do so (Devin has never possessed a firearm)
The true character of a person is told in their ability to express themselves and Devin’s indignation over losing his job (he was performing poorly due to the stressful work environment, hell, like every engineer worth anything was leaving that horrible place because they wanted to get the hell out of dodge — Trey Reeves, was enough to cause him
Doug’s management style is confrontational interrogation, and it doesn’t sit right with employees from the past…
It is a fact that many many engineers left there and Devin kept an Excel file on his company computer that showed how many people had left the company since he started… it was a roughly estimated 50% turnover among the on-site engineering professionals in under a year which is INSANE (see PM between Devin and Shane Reid who used to work there on LinkedIN who corroborates this)… and to boot the company had quarterly meetings where they would reassure staff that turnover wasn’t so bad to plant the seed in their minds that they shouldn’t leave
Doug threatened physical violence on me when things got to a lukewarm discussion temperature over a difference of technical opinion, mistook the business relationship for an adversarial one. Physical violence l l is a boundary of mine. I have an older brother who used to beat me up for fun.. I did not enjoy being physically dominated by somebody for no reason. There must be reason behind it, and there was no reason to be found within Doug’s line of reasoning… he just wanted the problems to be solved and go away so that the executives would stop breathing down his neck about money and timelines for their projects. I just wanted to go slow enough to ensure that I do the right things. And part of that was to console with my boss on some of the what the code says, but he never was able to walk me through that and left me to my own devices to read that code for NFPA 654 652 69 and AI didn’t exist yet so I didn’t have the resources at my disposal to interpret some of the very vague and hard to understand language and within that code to understand if what I was building was going to be fully compliant because it was my first project and I wanted to get everything right down to the miniscule so detail because I trust that the folks that have a committee together, who discussed the NFPA code I probably very well educated and learn men of combustible dust who probably came up with a very good frame of how to stop a dust explosion. They just use very many words and it was a lot to handle all at once.
They tell me that psychosis like is in some cases permanent. They do not know why.
If you have not personally experienced psychosis, you do not understand it. It is not something that I enjoy or like to think about because it was literally as if I was a prisoner in my own mind. I could see an observe, but something else was in control, and it didn’t feel like it was my own consciousness, and it really made me think about what it means to be conscious and alive.
I’ve been suicidal ever since then . It has not been a fun time. Mostly because there was stresses put on me that didn’t need to be there in addition to all the personal life stresses that made everything kind of numb and I didn’t feel anything even when things were happening. I didn’t feel any emotions about anything very few at least if there were any most of my emotions were anger and resentment that did not need to be there. Because I was right. Because I was taught when I’m asked a question at school that I should give the correct answer. And if somebody prompted me with a question, do you think that this site is a safe site I would say that most people took the site safety as a joke. I would say that I heard even the site safety manager, make a trip joke about compliance and hardhats, and things like that so my expectation was very low about how safe the safety culture was, and that this sort of lack of safety culture goes all the way to the top of the organization because the organization is not capable of properly stewarding this old site which needed to be.
